Eyes are the windows to our soul. Well, that may be at a deeper level.
But at a very physical level, eyes are as important a body organ as the others. And there are organs we really can take care of (though we can take care of all organs to a large extent) and eyes and teeth are the two that we can look after ourselves on a daily basis.
Chewing food well and massaging gums and brushing twice a day is a simple task that mostly takes care of the teeth. And the eyes, being sensitive as they are, need a little more care. Especially in today’s times when we are glued to the bright lights of the computer, the phone and the television — screens that emit harmful light. These 3 gadgets take most of our time and tax the eyes the most apart from burdening the neck, shoulders, arms, wrists, fingers and the spine.
While one needs to take intermittent breaks from the gadgets, it is also important to blink while working and to splash water on the eyes regularly. And then there are exercises for the eye that need to be done every day. Cucumber or potato packs for the eyes, or simply closing the eyes to relax are also required. And one of the things that also works wonders is looking at the greenery, the plants and trees.

I have been doing all this since reading and computers does take a lot of my time. But apart from all this, it is the age old tratak kriya that has done wonders for my eyesight. Though I am not off my reading glasses yet (post 3 months of regular exercises and tratak without break), but I am sure it has not worsened.
Tratak involves candle gazing in a dark room for 7 minutes without blinking and then rubbing the palms and placing them over the eyes for a few minutes.
Simple. Yes.

But you must switch off all gadgets or wean yourself away from them an hour before and then perform the tratak kriya just before sleeping.
It not only is magic for the eyes but for the brain too — improves focus, attention and concentration.
It was a challenge I took upon myself when Shakti told me that I could actually get rid of my reading glasses as the kriya would majorly improve my eyesight. And I thought why not. It’s like you brush your teeth every morning. You do tratak before sleeping.
Do try. There are no side effects, for sure.
